Andare, Partire, Tornare ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chlorine-soaked days Spent the day with Tim paddling around in mom's pool, and playing keep-away with the dogs. The lab will plunge into the pool, all her retriever instincts operating, but the border collie gets hysterical, and runs in big circles around the pool, barking and waiting for the lab to swim back to shore so he can take the ball away. The BC has bad teeth, so we bought a doggie toothbrush, and I've been scrubbing away at all the crusties on his molars for the past couple of days. Hope it works - if he'd chew more like the lab, his teeth would be pearly white. Tonight went to Old Towne Alexandria, a nice little historic district like a smaller version of Georgetown. Water is so soothing to be next to, and T and I just sat by the Potomac, talking and listening to the street musicians. There's a great art gallery type place that sells the coolest stuff - I stood at the window and drooled. Of course, it's all wildly expensive, so if I want to purchase any of the tin-cut sculptures, or the hand-made, hand-painted furniture with all the cool varieties of wood, I'd have to save up forever. I'm really enjoying the series _Six Feet Under_. At first, it was a way to pass the time while waiting for The Sopranos to start again, but it's really engrossing. Of course, I'm morbidly preoccupied as it is, and the focus on the nitty-gritty of a funeral parlor can provoke thoughts of an oogy nature (did I want to know what they do to make you look lifelike at an open casket viewing? Maybe cremation is better after all) but the acting is sound, and the plot lines are bizzare without sacrificing any humanity. Plus, the camera direction is clever without being distracting and irritating - I couldn't watch NYPD Blue because of the vastly annoying shaky camera thing. 1:39 a.m. - 2001-07-29 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
