what's this shit about the Apostle John?

Just got back (well about two hours ago) from the Second Annual Penn State Art History Geekathon, in beautiful, scenic, and confusing-to-drive-in York, Pennsylvania. Since it's the best midpoint for all of us clustered on the east coast, as many of us that could showed up at the York Galleria to eat, loiter, and generally make merry.

It was fabulous seeing these people again, especially two who I haven't seen in about two years. It all felt very strange, because we picked up right where we left off, as if we had all been hanging out earlier in the week. We got good gossip, referenced stupid in-jokes (what is it lurking in the pyramids that makes professors of ancient art go completely bonkers? So *how* drunk were you at the Phyrst on St. Patrick's day? How *did* Little Hussy manage to make her passport picture look like something out of Vogue?) and learned new ones (you can get eight years in prison for an assault with a beer bottle! Crazy professors of ancient art occasionally send you to Hawaii to present papers for them! Chessica has a fat man sitting on her chest!). We argued about Leonardo in front of the waiter at the Olive Garden, who made the mistake of asking about the book _The DaVinci Code_ and was thusly bombarded with information, opinion, and mild scorn. We talked about cute guys in the Lord of the Rings movies. We proposed a toast and clinked glasses of wine. We laughed like rabid hyenas. We also tried to console - or at least distract - Kateh from the sudden implosion of her love life, as the man she was dating decided to inform her that oh yeah, the woman I told you was my sister, and the two kids I said were my nephews? She's my wife and they're my kids, and we've been seperated for a year, but we're not what you would technically call divorced...

It was a long drive to York and a long drive back, but being in the company of good friends makes the time fly past. Here's to next year!
