Andare, Partire, Tornare

Delicious tobacco goodness!

Not too much exciting today, but I'm sure tonight's party will more than make up for it. I puttered around on the computer for a bit, and then went in and sorted a new donation, which is a cool collection of cigarette promos, like the kind that you read about in Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers (ok, I'm not *positive* that they appear in Christie, but I know that Chief Inspector Parker gives a card to a street urchin who asks him for one).

They're pretty neat, although treacally in that Victorian way. Lots of puppies and kittens and other animals on scraps of silk, to be sewn into crazy quilts by bored matrons. An example of one of those crazy quilts. A fabric "autograph" sheet, where a truly sacchrine Cupid sits, surrounded by little rebus cards with signatures of the owner's friends written on them. The "cards" say things like U R A *picture of a peach*, Your *picture of two eyes* are like *picture of stars*. And so on. And there are these little painted tin pictures, that were enclosed in the cigarette carton, and also some "suitable for framing" cards of bathing beauties (not salacious) and captioned things like "Girl of Bar Harbor" and "Girl of Palm Beach." Gawd, I love this kind of stuff.

Must get home soon, buy ice and plastic forks, and do party prep. Will report on the goings-on.
