the magic of the movies

Posting while people take "lunch" - at five till midnight - on the set of the Disney movie I'm chaperoning the museum rooms for. No stars lurking in trailers, however - the only star of the movie, Nicholas Cage, is off at the National Archives, or something. However, we have something cool. We have a rainmaker! Basically, it's a massive truck full o' water, and two big poles hoisted by cranes, with gigundo sprinklers on each end. The effect is very, very good. And when the horses pulling the carriage come crunching up the (newly) gravel driveway to our 17th street entrance, now remade cunningly to closer resemble the White House, with the rain streaming down, the effect is way cool.

I've spent most of my time by the period rooms, as four of them need to be lit, which means that burly, sweaty men carrying much equipment need to get in and out. In fact, I need to cut this entry short and go back to see if I'm needed.

At least they feed us really, really well. Makes up for the fact that I'll be here all bloody night and on into the morning.
