Paranoia strikes deep in the heartland

I love my charm bracelets, but damn, they're frustrating me. First, the Ebay charm seller rips me off - no real biggie, since it was seven bucks, but still irksome. Then, I start losing charms! Somehow, my first bracelet gets put through the wash (I think the airplane charm got snagged and dragged the bracelet into the wash on a sleeve or something.) These charms have soldered rings, so I'm not too concerned, until I take a look at the bracelet and realize that my pineapple charm is gone. Of course, the company that sold them last year doesn't seem to be selling them this year - I've checked two different stores, no dice.

As to my Italy bracelet, I had earlier snagged my scorpion charm, and broken it - not a big loss, as I didn't like the way it looked and was planning on ditching it anyway. But just this past Saturday, somehow, somewhere, I lost my gondola charm. I can get another one, as they're all over Ebay, but it makes me really, really grumpy. The split rings from Blue Mud are fine, but they seem to easily permit the charm to work free - I almost lost my papal keys charm and luckily saw it and saved it in time. Both bracelets are temporarily retired until I regain my love for them - and get Bemo to solder the split rings on the Italy bracelet. If I lose any of the rarer charms on that thing, I will cry.

I don't think I shared my good news from work. My boss asked to speak to me privately the other day, triggering in me a flood of panicohmygodI'mfiredtheycaughtme, which is really the way my brain is most days. But no - instead of the information that I had been caught and that the police should be along any minute to escort me to the curb, as I wailed and clutched ActionFigureBoromir and Faramir to my bosom, she told me that I had just been awarded a raise! Whoopie! I took on a few more duties that the exiting quilt curator had formerly done, and they decided that a small uptick in the ole' salary was the way to sweeten it. It was a huge surprise, and a much enjoyed one, especially since I still get the small merit salary raise that they do each January. I did the dance of joy around the office, much to the bemusement of my boss.

Tomorrow is my last day at work until Jan 2. Tomorrow is also the day I go see Return of the King. Tomorrow is shaping up to be a pretty damn good day, non?
